St. Osyth Almshouse Charity

Charity Registration No. 210468. Almshouse Association N0. 0453

The Charity currently owns six one bed-roomed almshouses, four of them in Clacton Road and two in St. Clairs Road. In conjunction with Colne Housing Association, the Charity also has nomination rights to five two Bedroom properties in Clinton Close. All these are currently occupied and maintained to a high standard by the Charity. When a vacancy occurs it is advertised throughout the village for a minimum of one month. A waiting list is not maintained. The St. Osyth Almshouse Charity does not have an age restriction. This is unusual for an Almshouse Charity. If a vacancy does occur, the Trustees have to consider if the applicant fulfils the following:-

1. Applicants should be residents of the parish of St. Osyth at the time of application and in need of housing.

2. Applicants should have only low income and have very little by way of capital assets.

The Charity also takes into account applicants with physical or other disabilities in considering their suitability for occupying an almshouse. Further information about the Charity can be obtained from the Chairman of the St. Osyth Almshouse Charity:-

John White on 01255 820577.
